Do you ever wish you’d been born with a different smile? If chipped, discolored, unusually shaped, or gapped teeth are keeping you from feeling confident about your smile, call Edward H. Chappelle Jr., DDS, or request your consultation online. Dr. Chappelle is an expert in dental veneers and can use them to transform your teeth. Don’t hesitate to schedule your appointment at his Bowie, Maryland, office to get started.
Veneers are extremely thin shells that Dr. Chappelle can affix to the front of your teeth to dramatically change their appearance. Because these veneers can be custom-made for your mouth, your options are endless. You can use veneers to fix a number of cosmetic issues, including:
The thin shell of the veneer will be bonded to the front of your tooth. Because the veneer is tooth-colored and shaped to look like a natural tooth, it becomes the new “tooth” that people see. As a result, veneers can cover over any number of cosmetic dentistry problems.
Getting veneers is usually a three-step process.
To start, schedule an appointment with Dr. Chappelle. During this meeting, you can explain your smile goals to him and, together, you can explore your veneer options. Dr. Chappelle will also use this time to perform a brief mouth exam so he can ensure that veneers are a good choice for you.
You want your veneers to mimic natural teeth. They need to lay flat against the gum line and line up with the surfaces of your surrounding teeth. To ensure a flush fit, Dr. Chappelle will remove a very small amount of enamel from the front surface of your tooth. After this space is made for the veneer, he’ll take extremely precise measurements.
Once he has the exact measurements of your tooth, Dr. Chappelle will custom create a veneer that will fit in your mouth — and help you achieve your smile goals — perfectly.
Before the veneer is affixed, Dr. Chappelle will test it in place to ensure the fit and color are correct. Once the veneer is perfected, he will use dental cement to permanently affix it to the tooth.
Traditional porcelain veneers can last as long as 15 years. No-prep veneers minimize step two of the process above and generally last up to seven years. Dr. Chappelle can explore the options with you, helping you choose the right one for your mouth, your lifestyle, and your finances.
